Eligibility and Requirements

To be eligible, students must be entering or have completed a junior year of study in Computer Science or closely related fields and not have completed a BA or BS degree. Citizenship or permanent residency of the U.S. is required.
Preference will be given to applicants who have completed at least one year of undergraduate course work in Computer Science. Students with community college experience, women and minorities are strongly encouraged.

Application Process

Step 1: Complete the online application form:

Step 2:
A copy (unofficial is ok) of your most current Undergraduate Transcripts. (Please include the most recent transcripts from all institutions you have attended.)

Preferably, transcripts in pdf format should be emailed to reu@cs.umass.edu Alternately they can be mailed to:

Step 3:
Your Personal Statement (One-page limit).

Email your Personal Statement (PDF format only) to reu@cs.umass.edu.

Some possible topics to cover in your one page statement are: Your research interests and how you came to be interested in those areas. Your previous research experience and how this program might prepare you for the future Your reasons for wanting to participate in this research opportunity. If you believe that your academic record does not accurately reflect your potential, please explain (briefly).

Step 4:
Two Letters of Recommendation.

Two letters of recommendation are required. A letter from at least one faculty member is preferred, but other professional references will be accepted.

Request that your recommender email (in PDF format) the letter to reu@cs.umass.edu or mail the letter directly to the same address listed above for transcripts.
