Summer Support

You will receive a total of $4,500 paid monthly for the 10-week summer program based on a 37 hour week. This stipend is over and above your housing and travel assistance.

Housing

Housing will be provided free of charge for the 10-week period of the program. Students will be housed in the newly constructed North Residential Area Apartments. The North Apartments promise the convenience of living on-campus with the independence of apartment living. They are air-conditioned and approximately a 10 minute walk to the Computer Science Building.

Travel

Travel will be covered or reimbursed up to $400 for those coming from out-of-state.

Facilities

The Computer Science Department has 72,000 square feet of spacious state-of-theart offi ces and labs, over 900 computer systems running Unix, Mac, and Windows operating systems, high-performance computing clusters, an environmentally controlled server room, and a large full-time support staff dedicated exclusively to the department.
The computers are connected via 100Mbs/1Gbs switched Ethernet
and an 802.11 a/b/g wireless network, and connected to the campus
via a high-speed link to the Internet and Internet2. Among our
equipment is a UMass Humanoid Torso (Dexter), UMass Segway,
UBot fl eet of two-wheeled mobile robots, and a distributed sensor
network that creates a “Smart Room” environment.
