The Department of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst offers a 9 1/2-week summer research program for undergraduates in the following areas:
Mobile and Sensor Networks, Information Retrieval, Data Mining, Learning Technologies, Robotics, Software Systems and Architecture and the application of computer techniques to Health and Safety, Dispute Resolution and Social Networks.
Student participants will work on a research team with other students and a faculty mentor to carry out a research project. Students will present the final results of their work at an open poster session during the final week of the program and, where appropriate, at their home institutions and/or scholarly venues such as conferences.
All undergraduates who have taken computer science courses and are entering their junior or senior year (Sept. 2011) are eligible to apply. We particularly encourage students with community college experience , either those in the process of transferring from a community college to a 4-year institution or those who are already at a 4-year institution but were previously enrolled at a community college.
Never done research before? No problem. All it takes is a willingness to challenge yourself and the knowlege you have gained in your coursework.
